This is an older version of our guide on hearts – The data here is still valid, let us know if it’s not so we remove this. For our newer more detailed post on the Grow Castle market, click here.

As far as making money goes in Grow Castle, your long-term primary source is going to be the colonies, but for the time being, let’s take a look at the market. The grow castle market lets you trade in your crystals in return for gold, it’s a quick way to buy gold but at the end of the day, it’s a little bit underwhelming.

Hearts

Every time you exchange more than 10 crystals at a time with the market, you gain hearts, the maximum number of hearts that you can have at any time is 100, hearts will:

  • Increase the amount of gold you get when you exchange crystals for gold.
  • Increase the price at which items are sold.

Since the hearts cap out eventually, you might as well get them all, but just remember that the amount of gold you’ll earn from the market won’t be able to compete with other means of earning gold. For the time being though, let’s take a look at the numbers.

Is spending crystals worth it?

You earn one crystal every time you clear a wave, crystals are used for quite a lot of different thing, whether you want to reset your heroes or simply upgrade your tower components, crystals are important to have in your hand.

Spending crystals on hearts mean that you don’t spend those on other parts of your setup, so is it worth it to trade your crystals in for gold in return for a slightly higher income from selling items? Maybe, let’s take a look at the numbers.

Starting at Eight hearts

8 Hearts – B Class Item Price: 27,773
8 Hearts – A Class Item Price: 178,991

9 Hearts – B Class Item Price: 30,103
9 Hearts – A Class Item Price: 189,345

Percent Increase for B Class: 8.38%
Percent Increase for A Class: 5.78%

10 Hearts – B Class Item Price: 32,382
10 Hearts – A Class Item Price: 199,474

Percent Increase for B Class: 7.57%
Percent Increase for A Class: 5.35%

Even though these numbers might look a bit too low, they shouldn’t be underestimated, in the long term you’ll be farming and selling hundreds, if not thousands of items in total, selling a vast majority of them because RNG hates everyone equally.

Even farming for a new A-class equipment for this guide took us a fair bit of tries :^) and we just wanted any crappy A class item just to check out its price.

In the long tun though, it’s much better to simply spend your crystals on tower components, the cost vs benefit of earning a bit of spare gold from selling items isn’t really worth it.

The Race to 100 Hearts

Ideally, you’d want to get six hearts at a time, so saving up until you have 50 crystals and turning them in at the same time, the total number of crystals you’ll need depending on which route you wish to follow is given as:

You earn one heart for every ten crystals, you’ll have to turn in ten crystals, 100 times in order to hit the cap, costing you a total of 1000 crystals. This costs the same as turning in thirty crystals at a time.
You earn three hearts for every thirty crystals, you’ll have to turn in thirty crystals, 33 times and then turn in ten crystals to hit the cap, costing you a total of 1000 crystals. This costs the same as turning in ten crystals at a time.
You earn six hearts for every fifty crystals, you’ll have to turn in fifty crystals, 16 times and then get the remaining hearts by using the other two options, costing you a total of 840 crystals. This costs 160 crystals less than the two alternatives.

Earning gold in grow castle shouldn’t really be a problem for you, the market is only there in case you don’t have use for crystals any more, but lets be honest, that’s never going to happen ever since they added tower components.
